During ovulation, the ovaries swell with follicles which are basically cysts that contain the egg we ovulate. The swollen ovaries can be tender! Once the follicle bursts and releases the egg, there’s fluid that spills - this is also pretty irritating in there. So, it’s not unusual for it to feel bloated or uncomfortable at the time of ovulation - which can also make sex uncomfortable.
